The history of Downie & Gadban
Alexander Downie practised as a solicitor in the Alton area in the 1880s. Victor Gadban joined him in the early 1900s and the firm Downie & Gadban was formed in 1905, with offices at 46 High Street, Alton.
In 1962 Mr Gadban died and the firm moved to our current offices at 100 High Street. In February 1963 Peter Bathurst joined the firm as a partner, as did Jeremy Orsborn in 1972 and Simon Acworth in 1978.
Mr Bathurst retired in 1991 and Mr Orsborn in 2008. Since then the firm has been headed by Simon Acworth. Richard Pigula has practised here since 1998 and became a partner in 2007.
